When history looks back on the year 2014, what will it say about the people of America? Will it be recorded this was the year voters woke up from their zombie slumber and did the right thing? Will history record a great revival of Christianity in a dark evil nation? Or will 2014 be just another year the people did nothing and allowed the greatest nation on earth to fade into darkness and obscurity?
Almost every person understands that our nation is headed in the wrong direction; or at the very least, most will agree things could be better. There are some, of course, who are excited about the direction of our nation. They are misinformed and focused on a limited scope of issues. Even the ones who really understand that something must be done and fast, do not know how. But what can really be done to turn this nation around?
The first step is to stop complaining. That is all some people do. Complain about Congress; complain about the economy; complain about the lack of jobs, the high cost of food or the fact nobody is doing anything but complaining!
When a person realizes they do not like the direction of our nation, they have to make a commitment to be the one to make a difference. The person you are expecting to “do something” should be you!
That is why I am running for the United States Senate. I have made the commitment to do what I can to leave America a better place. As an Optometrist, I have spent nearly 30 years solving people’s problems. That is what I do; I solve problems. My success as a problem-solver has allowed me to build a practice large enough to add another doctor. Now, I want to take my problem-solving to Washington.
Our nation is in need of leaders. Leaders who will make difficult and painful decisions; leaders who will sacrifice to serve the people. Jesus once said, “…The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” (Matthew 8:20). Jesus came to save the world; yet, he was homeless for our sake.
Jesus solved the problem of mankind and its’ sin. We need leaders who will follow his lead. I have taken the story of John 21 and compiled a list of 153 things we can do to solve America’s financial problems. If we do these things, America will be greater than ever before.
The first step is to do exactly what our Founding Fathers did two hundred and forty years ago. Before we had a Declaration of Independence, we had a Declaration of Dependence. Our Founding Fathers agreed to begin their deliberations for independence with prayer.
My first step on a 153-step journey to restoring the glory of America, is to PRAY FIRST. It has to begin with prayer. America has to turn to God. Without God, we will never have prosperity. So the first step must be to turn our focus on God.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14
God’s people must humble themselves, repent of their sins and the sins of our nation, seeking God’s face for forgiveness. From there, solutions are common sense and I will introduce one per day, beginning on June 5th, all the way up to Election Day. My campaign is solution oriented. I hope my opponents will offer solutions as well; so voters can select the best person for the job. West Virginians deserve the best candidate for the United States Senate to be elected. We can no longer afford to elect the most popular or the one that spends the most money. In fact, voters should never elect any candidate that spends a lot of money to get elected; for they will keep right on spending once elected. That is why we have a national debt that totals over $ 125 Trillion Dollars.
Remember, PRAY FIRST; then vote for the best candidate. Vote for Dr. Zane Lawhorn for United States Senate and let’s work together to solve America’s problems. It is up to the voters to decide how 2014 will be remembered. I hope it will be remembered as the year West Virginia led America back from the brink of destruction.
