Position Statement: I love to hunt.

Description of Position:
|
Hunting is a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. From the beginning of time hunting has been vital to the survival of mankind. You might even say it was the first sport! Course then it was more survival than sport. Yet even today hunting provides a good source of food for people to enjoy. Hunters also share their harvest with those who are in need. Almost 55,000 pounds of meat were donated to the hungry in West Virginia in 2004.
Hunting provides a controllable means of regulating the animal population. In times of overpopulation, the hunting season is extended in some manner. In times of decline the season is more limited. I enjoy hunting even more now that my son is of age to hunt as well.
Hunting is safer than most sports. In fact, a large portion of the deaths that occur while hunting are related more to poor health than the weapons in use. Heart attacks are a big portion of the statistics related to hunting fatalities. Hunting is a great sport and an American tradition. |
